Living on the heritage coast of the North East of England for over 20 years has enabled CS Cape to absorb the atmosphere which has been the focus of many of her paintings. inspired by the vibrant surroundings, the extravagant palette of rich colours are an expression of the mood and texture of the landscape.
Using music as a rhythm, she creates paintings that sing. The oils flow across the canvas, as the flow of the musical beat.
Following the edict of Van Gogh, CS Cape instead of trying to record what she sees, uses colour to arbitrarily express her feelings forcibly. Rather than thinking of her paints as a melting pot where all the colours become indistinguishable, she things of using paints as a salad bowl creating a unique flavour whilst keeping the taste of each individual part.
