Well, if you are painting on paper or other two dimensional media, you may be tempted to cut that bit and discard the rest. Some of the great masters such as Edgar Degas have done this. The challenge for me was that I really liked this single flower within the field of flowers, the temptation to cut it was great, but it was entwined with the other flowers, I couldn’t just take that one out. In reality this flower is also very small, only about an inch or so in size, so couldn’t stand as a picture in its own right. I was tempted to try to recreate it as a larger painting, but the bit I liked was the colours sitting on top of each other, next to each other which I don’t really think I could recreate. So I decided to take a picture of it and make it the feature.
I took my trusty camera (Canon Rebel T1i) and took a photo of the area that I liked. It was a digital camera so I took a number of photos of different parts of the painting. I thought the photo of this flower was particularly interesting as you could see the colours on the brush stroke and the thread of the canvas.
So all was not lost, I didn’t like the original painting, but I’ve used this detailed photograph of my painting ‘swaying in the breeze’ and, created a range of products from it which you can see by clicking on the link.
